The Apprenticeship Talent Bridge

Turn strong apprenticeship
potential into opportunity

What is it

Turning potential into opportunity

The Apprenticeship Talent Bridge is a coordinated campaign that helps highly engaged candidates discover additional apprenticeship opportunities across Cumbria and Lancashire.

Led by The 5% Club and supported by BAE Systems, it will help growing employers and learning providers create high-quality apprenticeship opportunities.

The opportunity

A positive onward route

BAE Systems attracts more strong apprenticeship applicants than they have positions available. Some candidates progress to an agreed stage of the recruitment process and demonstrate real potential, but cannot be offered a role due to capacity constraints.

The Apprenticeship Talent Bridge gives eligible candidates who choose to participate a positive next step. They can complete a profile, explore approved opportunities and decide which employers they want to apply to. Employers remain responsible for their own fair selection and appointment decisions.

Why this matters

  • 26.8%

Of all North West vacancies were affected by skills shortages.

  • 19%

    Of employers offer apprenticeships.

  • 31%

Of employers plan to offer apprenticeships in future.

Almost one in five UK employer sites already offer apprenticeships. The opportunity is both to help established apprenticeship employers reach additional talent and to support interested employers to create their first—or next—high-quality apprenticeship opportunity.

What it is

More than a vacancy listing

The Talent Bridge is a time-bound, coordinated recruitment campaign—not a rolling jobs board. It supports employers and learning providers to prepare genuine opportunities before candidates are invited to apply, creating a clearer and more consistent journey for everyone involved.

Campaign timeline

16 October 2026 — Barrow employer summit

Join us in Barrow to learn more about the Apprenticeship Talent Bridge, explore how your organisation could participate and register your interest in creating an apprenticeship opportunity.

  • Until March 2027

Employers sign up to explore and create apprenticeship opportunities with the relevant support and training arrangements in place.

  • April 2027

Eligible candidates explore the approved opportunities and submit their applications.

  • May–June 2027

Employers complete shortlisting and interviews within the coordinated campaign timetable.

Employers should register as early as possible to allow enough time to shape their opportunity, confirm the apprenticeship route and prepare for recruitment.

How it works

  1. Employers and learning providers register. A short expression-of-interest form captures their contact details. A follow-up email then provides a more detailed form tailored to their role in the campaign.

  2. Opportunities are developed by March 2027. Employers are supported to shape genuine apprenticeship roles and confirm the appropriate training route between now and April.

  3. Eligible candidates opt in. Suitable candidates who reach the agreed stage of the BAE Systems recruitment process can choose to join the Talent Bridge.

  4. Applications open in April 2027. Candidates complete a profile and decide which approved opportunities suit their interests, location and travel preferences.

  5. Employers recruit during May and June. Employers complete shortlisting and interviews through a fair process within the coordinated campaign timetable.

  6. Training and outcomes are confirmed. Successful candidates, employers and learning providers complete the normal apprenticeship and enrolment arrangements.

Free to take part. There is no participation fee for employers or learning providers. Their commitment is the time and practical support needed to prepare opportunities, support candidates and work within the coordinated campaign timetable.

Stay in control

Reach engaged candidates and build your future workforce

Whether you already recruit apprentices or are considering apprenticeships for the first time, the Talent Bridge can help you develop a genuine opportunity and connect with an additional pool of motivated candidates.

The campaign complements your existing recruitment channels. You retain control of your vacancy, selection process and appointment decisions.

You stay in control. Candidates choose where they apply, and every employer makes its own shortlisting, interview and appointment decisions. Registration does not guarantee applications or an appointment.

Employers

What employers gain

- Access to an additional pool of eligible, highly engaged apprenticeship candidates.

Existing relationships are respected

Extend the reach of your provision and help employers create opportunities

The Talent Bridge gives learning providers two clear opportunities: promote relevant apprenticeship provision to new employers and offer employers you already support an additional, coordinated recruitment stream.

Existing employer–provider relationships remain in place. The campaign complements established recruitment activity and does not replace the provider’s role in training delivery, funding guidance, employer support or enrolment.

Employers retain choice over their learning provider, and established employer–provider arrangements will be recorded and maintained throughout the campaign.

Learning Providers

What learning providers gain

- An opportunity to present relevant provisions and capacity to participating employers.

- Potential introductions to employers seeking apprentices.

- An additional candidate-recruitment stream for employers you already support.

- A coordinated timetable for opportunity development, applications, recruitment and enrolment.

- Clear recognition of existing employer relationships and referral routes.

- A practical role in helping employers become ready to recruit and support an apprentice.

- support role design, standard selection, funding and training-readiness discussions;

- confirm entry requirements, delivery arrangements and anticipated start dates before an opportunity is published;

- explain and support any separate course or provider application required from candidates;
