Introduction

AMIC is a £100m collaborative, innovative powerhouse of advanced manufacturing, which is set to elevate our region globally.

It is being delivered by Queen’s University Belfast in partnership with industry, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, Ulster University, and supported by the UK Government and NI Executive through the Belfast Region City Deal.

Through AMIC, we are supporting economic growth and prosperity for Northern Ireland by creating high-quality jobs and increasing inward investment through high-value manufacturing innovation clusters: driving industrial transformation, paving the way for future technologies, and competing globally with a more sustainable focus.

Who we are

Our team is also growing rapidly as we begin to implement our ambitious vision with enhanced capability in digitalisation, design, and sustainability, and deliver real impact across the region. We have teams across four core capability areas: Smart Design, Digital Factory, Sustainable Polymers and Composites and Nanotechnology and Photonics and three cross-cutting themes: Sustainability, Skills, Supply Chain and Cluster Development. We also have expertise across various business functions including business development, operations, communications and IT.

What we do

The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre is a key initiative aimed at enhancing the region's manufacturing capabilities. It focuses on providing advanced manufacturing technologies, research and development support to local industries, fostering innovation and competitiveness. AMIC’s mission is to drive growth and competitiveness across the NI manufacturing sector through the development of and partnering with world-class innovation capability. AMIC serves as a hub where businesses can collaborate with academic and research institutions to drive technological advancements and improve production processes.  We are building a 10,500m2 Factory of the Future which will be opening March 2026 at Global Point where we will help industry: evaluate design, material and supply chain options, increase competitiveness, reduce lead time for product introduction, provide workforce development support, access to state-of-the-art technology, derisking investment and help companies derive value from data. We will support a design-centric approach, drive innovation and competitiveness and help decarbonise manufacturing.
