Interested in construction, technology and the built environment but don’t necessary want to be on a construction site full time?

Helping to win profitable work for the GRAHAM business, the Trainee Preconstruction Manager will play a supporting role in the production of a diverse range of high-quality submissions for projects (incl. health, education, leisure, commercial & residential) for our clients throughout the UK and Ireland.

You will be providing support to our Submissions Manager and Bid Managers in the co-ordination of our regional construction delivery teams, in-house staff from our SHEQ, Planning, Design Management, Commercial, Social value and HR Departments and external design consultants and supply chain partners to produce winning submission and bid responses.

This will include:

  • Supporting the team in the analysis and communication of tender information including cost, quality, design, planning, SHE, sustainability, social value and legals.
  • Implement tender strategies to co-ordinate the preparation and submission of the bid
  • Source input and responses from the various technical disciplines and support services within the business and external consultants (where engaged)
  • Present for approval, key information incl. technical responses, staffing and administration structures for tender preparation
  • Collate responses into the final bid document ensuring they align with our vision and values as well as client needs
  • Maintain relevant databases including Sharepoint and ensure information is up to date
  • Follow core GRAHAM business systems and policies
  • Prepare meeting schedules
  • Prepare presentations
  • Be flexible
  • Be prepared to travel and occasionally stay away from home for short durations to attend site visits, meetings etc.

This job description is intended to give the post holder an appreciation of the role envisaged for the Trainee Pre-Construction Manager and the range of duties to be undertaken. It does not attempt to detail every activity. Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed with the post holder at regular intervals.

What are we looking for

Technical Competencies 

Essential Criteria:

  • Currently studying, or planning to undertake, a higher or degree-level course in a construction-related discipline
  • Strong interest in construction, technology and the built environment.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure finals documents are of the highest quality in terms of content and appearance
  • Well organised to ensure deadlines are met
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Co-Pilot)
  • Strong communication skills (written & oral) with the ability to engage with teams across departments as well as the Senior Management Team.
  • Ability to gather, assess, and present information clearly
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously

Desirable Criteria:

  • Background or interest in construction – knowledge of industry practices is a plus.
  • Experience working in a bid team, project research, or content development.
  • Understanding of tender processes and bid documentation structure.
