You will be shadowing a Payroll Officer to gain an understanding of the day-to-day interactions that go into completing payroll operations successfully.
Payroll Officers help a company run smoothly by managing all the salaries of the employees. Keeping an accurate record of employee hours and salaries can help the company make decisions about growth and future plans.
Typical tasks that a Payroll Officer carries out include:
- - The checking and accurate keying of hours onto timesheets
- - The administration of the payroll system and processing all changes as advised by HR
- - Processing overtime, salary increases, shift payments, holiday pay and any changes to the employee’s hours.
- - Calculating all statutory and occupational payments in relation to sick leave, paternity, adoption and maternity leave in accordance with policy and HMRC guidelines.
- - Creating and processing all necessary forms to comply with HMRC and Local Government pension guidelines.
- - Dealing with queries related to an individual’s pay, demonstrating a high level of customer service and confidentiality.
- - Maintaining and ensuring we are compliant with all policies and procedures.
- - Ensuring the payroll system is working off the correct tax tables and checking all deductions for PAYE and NIC are correct each month.
