About the role

Work Experience Overview
Participants will join AMIC for a three‑day group work experience programme designed to give a practical insight into advanced manufacturing and engineering. During the placement, participants will explore all four of AMIC’s core capability areas: Smart Design, Digital Factory, Nanotechnology and Photonics, and Sustainable Polymers and Composites

The programme combines hands‑on activities with state‑of‑the‑art machinery, equipment and industry‑standard CAD and simulation software. Working collaboratively, participants will apply their learning to a real‑life engineering challenge, developing ideas and solutions as a team. The experience culminates in a group project presentation at the end of the programme, helping participants build technical understanding, teamwork and communication skills.

What are we looking for

We welcome applications from individuals who have: 

  • A genuine interest in STEM subjects and curiosity about how technology and engineering are applied in real‑world settings 
  • An interest in, or enthusiasm for developing a career in, advanced manufacturing and/or research 
  • A willingness to explore AMIC’s core capability areas, including Smart Design, Digital Factory, Nanotechnology and Photonics, and Sustainable Polymers and Composites 
  • A curious and enquiring mindset, with an aptitude for problem solving and creative thinking 
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute ideas 
  • An openness to learning new tools, technologies and ways of working 

No prior technical experience is required—participants should simply be motivated, engaged, and keen to learn.
