SUMMARY OF ROLE

As an MEP Coordinator Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced MEP Coordinators, assisting in the management of Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP) activities on various construction projects. This apprenticeship provides hands-on experience in MEP coordination, design management, and installation oversight, ensuring systems are integrated effectively within the overall construction programme. You will develop skills in managing MEP consultants and subcontractors, reviewing design documentation, coordinating technical submissions, and supporting project teams in delivering high-quality, efficient, and compliant building services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical and Design Coordination

  • Assist in reviewing Employer’s Requirements (ERs) and performance specifications to understand project MEP scope.

  • Support the preparation and management of MEP design programmes and technical submission schedules.

  • Work with design teams to ensure MEP drawings and specifications are aligned with project requirements and construction schedules.

  • Assist in checking that MEP designs comply with CIBSE standards, building regulations, and project specifications.

  • Participate in coordination meetings to ensure MEP services integrate with architectural and structural elements.

Construction and Installation Support

  • Shadow experienced MEP Coordinators to understand MEP installation sequences, key programme dates, and site constraints.

  • Learn how to communicate critical installation requirements (e.g., service openings, builder’s work in connection with services (BWICS), and access provisions) to site teams.

  • Assist in managing and tracking MEP technical queries (RFIs) and design clarifications.

  • Support the review of MEP materials, plant, and equipment to ensure they meet project requirements and long-term durability standards.

Project and Site Management

  • Attend site inspections to observe MEP installation progress, quality control, and compliance with design intent.

  • Learn how to track and report on MEP subcontractor progress, identifying potential risks or delays.

  • Support the commissioning and handover process, including reviewing test results, witnessing system commissioning, and compiling O&M (Operation & Maintenance) documentation.

  • Assist in ensuring MEP aspects of BREEAM, EPC, SBEM, and other sustainability requirements are met.

Communication and Meetings

  • Attend MEP coordination meetings with design teams, subcontractors, and construction managers.

  • Learn how to take minutes and track action items from technical discussions.

  • Support MEP Coordinators in preparing updates for client meetings and project progress reports.

Learning and Development

  • Undertake relevant training in MEP systems, project management, and construction coordination.

  • Work towards a recognised MEP or building services qualification.

  • Engage with mentors to build knowledge and practical skills in MEP coordination, commissioning, and construction processes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain accurate records of activities and technical documents.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on all sites.

  • Contribute to the company’s continuous improvement and innovation initiatives in construction and MEP coordination.

  • Support Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives as required.

The above list is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to take on other duties and responsibilities for the effective and efficient performance of this role.
