About the role

Pupils will gain an insight into the drug development process, life at Almac and the variety of rewarding career paths available at Almac through laboratory tours, conversations with staff and activities. Laboratory experiments will take place in the W5 laboratory, Belfast on Friday, 20 June. Transport will be provided to/from W5, as required.

Pupils will participate in the following activities over the 3 days:

  • Tours of analytical, chemistry and diagnostic services laboratories
  • Workshops in Chemical Engineering, Project Management, Quality in the Pharma Industry and Interview Techniques
  • Q&A sessions with Higher Level Apprentices working in scientific and business-support roles
  • Laboratory experiments: DNA extraction from strawberries and gel electrophoresis, analysis of salicylic acid and acetylsalicylic acid

What are we looking for

Pupils interested in this placement should be in Year 13 and studying at least one of chemistry or biology at A-level, or equivalent (e.g. Double-Award Life and Health Sciences, BTEC Double /Triple in Applied Science). Pupils should be interested in pursuing a third-level (college or university course or an apprenticeship) that aligns with Almac career pathways.
