The company was founded in 1955 by three brothers whose father got cancer, and through that they saw not only the emotional burden that experience that brings, but also the financial strain that places on a family. So they set up a new insurance company to help people in these types of situations in a place called Columbus in Georgia.

Following the huge expansion of the company to a US Fortune 500, around the turn of the century there was a need to undertake a digital transformation and modernise many of Aflac’s processes and systems​. Aflac needed more IT talent than was available in the locality and decided to open up the Belfast office to support this effort.

Aflac resonated with the attitude of the people in Northern Ireland, the education system, the existing ecosystem of similar US companies​.

Aflac Northern Ireland has two divisions; Digital Services and Global Security. 

Digital Services

Aflac NI Digital Services, delivers a range of technical capabilities to Aflac in the US.

Providing a frictionless digital experience for our customers and policyholders in their time of need, as well as supporting field agents with onboarding, selling & servicing their policy holder accounts.

Our Digital services team is arranged into 3 Engineering practices;
Data Engineering, Automation & Workflow Engineering and Web & Mobile Engineering. We also have embedded teams that work across and alongside these 3 practices.

Global Security

At Aflac NI, we are driving the strategy and delivery of Application Security, Penetration Testing, Cloud Security Engineering and Security Software Engineering for the Global Security Program.

We are committed to bringing thought leadership and expertise to Aflac’s Global Cyber Security Program to drive security value for our customers. Innovation is at the core of our strategy, and we continuously seek cutting edge technologies and methodologies to stay ahead of evolving threats.
