About the role

Are you curious, passionate and self-motivated school or college leaver looking to start your Software Engineering career? Do you relish in being an early adopter? Then keep on reading!

We’re looking for two pioneering apprentices who get excited about learning new skills and technologies all while gaining your Higher-Level education. Partnering with Ulster University/ we will help kick start your technology career, studying part time and working at Aflac 4 days a week.

Sound interesting? Let’s tell you a bit more.

About Aflac

Aflac are a Fortune 500 U.S. company and one of the largest brands in the US and Japan, although there’s a very good chance you’ve not heard of us (yet). Aflac has helped provide financial protection and peace of mind for 70 years to millions of policyholders and customers across the U.S. and Japan, taking care of the expenses health insurance doesn’t cover (supplemental health insurance).

When people come to us, they really need us.

In Belfast, Aflac is developing great tech and embedding security to support US customers in their time of need. Using a variety of software technologies and AWS cloud to deliver core capabilities to our policyholders, making it easy for our customers to interact with us, change policy information, submit claims – all from the device in their pocket or tablet, desktop or laptop.

What you will be doing:

As part of our Agile teams, we will provide you with the training to get you up to speed with our technologies and present you with technology problems that influence how we are making things better for our customers. We might be looking at trends in the sales data from our agents who sell Aflac’s policies or using workflow automation to speed up how we process customer claims, building chatbots that provide a virtual assistant experience to our customers helping them in their time of need.

We love to continuously adapt and reinvent skills and capabilities as technologies change and evolve. We will provide the right challenges and opportunities and work with you to enable your success.

What you'll be getting involved in:

Lots! We want you to gain as much exposure as possible during your apprenticeship. You will have 6 month rotations across the business, working alongside teams in Application Support, Software Engineering, QA and Product where you can apply your learning as well as gaining a practical understanding at the same time.

What you will need:

  • GCSE grade B or above in both English & Maths
  •  CCC A Level
  • A passion for technology through projects or experience outside of school
  • Drive, commitment and eagerness to learn

What will you get:

  • Full funding for a BSc Hons Software Engineer degree with Ulster University/QUB meaning you work towards a degree with zero debt
  • A competitive apprenticeship salary and our full benefits package
  • A supportive, nurturing learning environment
  • Valuable experience 6-month rotations across all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Working with the best and brightest technologists who are truly passionate about what they do (we don’t just hire anyone!)
  • The opportunity to truly contribute to an award-winning technology company
  • Access to our award-winning Grade A office
  • Your own Aflac duck (sorry, not the real one)

So that’s us (nai). Thanks for taking the time to read this far (pretty impressive in the era of the 280-character tweet). We look forward to hearing from you if you fancy joining an innovative tech company with the agility of a start-up and the stability of a Fortune 500 U.S. company.
